What is Topyoular?
TopYoular is a web site where members can compete and compare popularity based on fan votes from their peers. Members can campaign to reach the top of their class, school, city and even country giving their profiles maximum exposure and interest. TopYoular is a place where shinny people sparkle. Somebodies got to shine, why not you?
Members are ranked by pop score. The highest pop score is number 1 and the ranks decend from there.
Pop score is calculated by adding a profiles "Pop" with it's "Juice." Number of votes is not added directly into the score.
"Pop" is a profiles temporary popularity score. Each vote a profile receives carries a certain amount of juice. For every single (1) juice point 100 pop points are added to the score. But these pop points begin decreasing by a certain percentage every day after the original vote. Therefore someone who was popular 6 months ago will be easily out ranked by someone who is rising in popularity today. This keeps the popularity ranks current and ever changing.
Juice is the amount of weight a certain vote caries. Not every voters vote is equal. For instance a non-members anonymous vote is worth the least. A member’s vote who is not a peer is worth more. A vote for oneself is worth even more than that and a vote from a peer who's also a member is worth the most. The scoring system was set up to encourage people to get their peers involved and discourage creating multiple anonymous accounts just to vote for one’s self. But at the same time we encourage self-voting and that is why it carries significant weight. All these factors go into determining a votes "juice."
Voting is simple. First click the “vote now” button below the nominee’s profile pic. Then just enter your email address in the box. Your email address will be used ONLY for identification. It WILL NOT get spammed or sold. After entering your email address simply click the submit button. If you are not a member and this is your first time voting you will get a one-time email verification letter to confirm your email address.

Again this is a one-time email verification letter.
Not directly. A person with many casual anonymous votes can be outscored by a person with just a few peer votes. This makes votes from your own classmates and peers more valuable. This way when a person rates for popularity in their school the votes actually come from people in their school.
A member’s pop score will decrease daily because the “Pop” of their votes decreases daily by a certain percentage. This way a person who was popular last year but has now fallen off the radar will not out score someone who is currently popular. A members pop will decrease by a certain percentage based on their number of votes, but that percentage increases significantly if a member does not get at least one vote a day. If a member goes 100 days without a single vote their pop will reach zero. Then their pop score will be comprised of just their juice and will not change until they receive another vote.

This is why some members will out rank others with fewer votes.
You can vote for any member once a day. That means you can give each friend (including yourself) a vote but you can’t vote for the same profile more than once a day.
If you do not see your school in our database you can add it easily with a few simple steps. First simply log onto your account. Second go to the bottom of your profile page and click the “add school request” button. Third fill out the school entry form. Once successful you can go back to your profile page and be the first to rank for your school. Look you’re number 1 already!
If your city has a population less than 100,000 then it is likely it is not in our database. There is a add city request form you can fill out, but before you do look to see if your city is part of a “greater area” district of a nearby highly populated city. The reason we encourage this is Topyoular is a place where people can compete to reach the top of a decently sized mountain. If you are ranking for a city with a population of 1000 then even if you reach the top your profile will not get the views that it would at the top of a major city. So if your city is close enough to the greater area of a major city simply add your school under that major city. We realize this cannot always be done and there are cities that are nowhere near a major city with a population over 100,000 (especially true for some University locations). So in this case we have created a “add city request” page found at the bottom of Topyoular. Unlike the add school request page, the “add city request” does not automatically add a city to the database. Add city submissions are moderated and therefore take some time to be approved. But once approved you can then add your schools, professions, and bands to your specific city.
